You have retained contractors for work at your residence and the contractors have either not completed the work or have gone out of business (“gone south”) and can not be located.

We would suggest the following when hiring a contractor or home improvement company:

1.) Be sure the contractor is licensed and insured as a minimum.

2.) Obtain references from others who have had work done by the contractor.

3.) Check with the Better Business Bureau (BBB) or Chamber of Commerce.

4.) Be careful when a contractor wants to be paid in total up front before starting the work.

5.) Use a credit card for payment (if possible). In the event of a problem, you can normally go to the credit card company for assistance with the dispute.

6.) Bottom line, check the contractor out and insure they are reputable.
